Terms of use

Effective 2026-09-07

Plain English, because nobody reads the other kind. Using Bodhi means agreeing to what is below. If you do not, please do not use it.

1. Who is behind Bodhi

Bodhi is run by Dishajyoti LLC, a Washington limited liability company. It is an early-stage project, built and tested at small scale — not an established service, and these terms are written to say so rather than to imply otherwise.

2. Your account

You need to be at least 18 years old to have an account. Sign-in works by emailed single-use links, so whoever can read your email can get into your account — look after it accordingly.

A family circle's invite code lets anyone holding it join that circle and see its lists. Share it the way you would share a key to your house, and only with people you actually mean to let in.

3. What Bodhi is for

Keeping track of gift ideas for your own family and friends. Please do not use it to:

  • store anything sensitive about anyone — addresses, health, finances, identity documents. It is a gift list, not a filing cabinet;
  • build lists about people you have no real-world relationship with;
  • get around the limits on how much you can send, or otherwise use the AI extraction for something that is not capturing gift ideas;
  • break the law, or anyone else's rights, with it.

There are per-hour and per-day limits on how much can be processed. They exist because every message costs real money to run through the AI, and they may change without notice.

4. Messages you forward

Bodhi works by you forwarding messages into it — and most of those were written by someone else. By forwarding a message you confirm you received it legitimately and are entitled to pass it on. Use your judgement: forward the bit about the running shoes, not the whole conversation.

You keep ownership of what you put into Bodhi. You give us only the permission needed to actually run the service — to store it, send it to the AI for extraction, and show it back to you and, where the app is designed to, to the other members of your family circles.

5. The AI gets things wrong

Gift ideas in Bodhi are produced by an AI model reading a forwarded message. It is not reliable, and it is not meant to be. It will sometimes attribute an idea to the wrong person, invent a gift nobody mentioned, miss an obvious one, or misread a joke as a request.

This is why nothing the AI produces reaches anyone's list on its own. Every suggestion waits in your inbox until a person keeps or discards it. That human check is the safeguard — it is not an optional extra step, and you should not treat what the AI suggests as accurate until you have looked at it.

The same goes for product details. When you paste a link, Bodhi reads the title, price and image the page advertises at that moment. Prices change, listings go stale, and some retailers deliberately block this kind of request and return something unhelpful instead — Amazon, for one, tends to return its own logo rather than the product photo. Check the price and the product on the retailer's own site before buying anything.

6. Product links and affiliate earnings

Bodhi generates search links for gift ideas. Those links may carry an affiliate tag, which means we may earn a commission if you buy something after following one — at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

It does not change what the app suggests: ideas come from the message you forwarded, not from what pays best. Bodhi does not sell products, take orders, or handle payments, and has nothing to do with your purchase, delivery or returns — that is between you and the retailer.

7. Availability, and the state of the project

Bodhi may be unavailable, may lose data, and may change or be discontinued. Features can be removed. Right now it is one small project run by a person, not a company with an operations team, so please do not make it the only place something important is written down. If you would be upset to lose a list, keep a copy elsewhere.

8. No warranty

Bodhi is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that anything it produces — especially AI-generated suggestions and product details — is accurate.

9. Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Dishajyoti LLC and its members, managers, employees and agents are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or a spoiled surprise, arising out of your use of Bodhi. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

10. Ending it

You can stop using Bodhi whenever you like and ask us to delete your account — see Privacy for how that works. We may suspend or end access to an account that is being used in the ways section 3 rules out, or where continuing would put other people's data at risk.

11. Changes

These terms will change as the app does. Material changes come with an updated effective date at the top of this page and an email to circle owners. Continuing to use Bodhi after that means accepting the new version.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, and disputes will be handled by the courts there.

13. The small print

If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies — the unenforceable part is narrowed only as far as it has to be. Not enforcing something once does not mean giving it up.

You cannot transfer your account or these terms to someone else. We can transfer them — to a company set up to run Bodhi, or to whoever takes it over — as long as your rights under them are unchanged.

Together with the Privacy page, this is the whole agreement between us about Bodhi, and it replaces anything said earlier.

14. Contact

Questions about these terms: hello@elf.dishajyoti.com, or the contact page.
