Gifts for grandparents

The hard part with grandparents is rarely taste. It is that they have had decades to buy anything they actually wanted, and most of them will genuinely tell you not to bother. Take that at face value and you end up with another candle; ignore it entirely and you end up with clutter they now have to find a home for.

The gifts that land tend to fall into three groups: something consumable they would never buy at this price themselves, something that makes a daily ritual nicer, or something with the family in it. The third one wins more often than the other two combined, and it is usually the cheapest.

  1. Solid Wood Picture Frame

    around $22

  3. Speciality Coffee Sampler

    around $35

Consumable, so it cannot become clutter, and it makes an existing daily habit slightly better rather than asking for a new one.

  7. E-Ink Reading Tablet

    around $140

The adjustable text size is the actual selling point, and it is worth explaining that rather than assuming a device is unwelcome.

Grandparents are also the people most likely to mention something once, in passing, in March. That is the exact problem Bodhi is built for — anyone in the family can text the idea in the moment it is said, and it is waiting on the right list in December.
